GET TO KNOW OUR FOUNDER

An interview with Jake Frampton

  • Why did you start using tools?

I probably started way back when I was six, maybe 7 years old. My parents took on a huge addition and did all of the work themselves. I have very fond memories of taking a hammer and "helping" through the demo phase. After that I loved tinkering around in my grandpa's wood shop, piecing together whatever scraps I could get a hold of. Ever since, I have had a love for crafting something tangible.

  • What happened in your life to start renovating?

Well, I started renovating spaces out of necessity. We bought a triplex and needed to fix up two of the units. Doing so was enough to plant the seed of wanting to do more. I started branching out into small carpentry projects--one offs and custom built-ins for friends. Every time my parents had a project around their house, I found myself dropping everything to go and help out. With each project I worked on, I realized that I felt more and more like myself.

  • What makes you like renovating kitchens and baths?

First off, I like interior work. Secondly, I don't like doing small odds and ends. Thirdly, I love working alongside interior designers. Kitchens and baths check all those boxes.

  • What makes you like the industry?

I like that each day and each project is truly different. Everyone always says that about their job, but I challenge anyone out there to say their work is more varied than our industry. There's also a sense of pride and accomplishment that comes with the industry. I didn't get that when I was working behind a desk in my corporate jobs. With residential remodeling, it's really gratifying to step back and physical see all that you've accomplished.

  • Who have you interacted with that has made your job happy?

My subcontractors and my network of interior designers are the first who come to mind. The partnership and support they provide has been invaluable for the growth and success of this business.

  • Who else in the industry makes you happy/do you admire?

When I first started thinking about getting into renovating homes, I watched a TON of YouTube. Scoot Brown Carpentry, The Essential Craftsman, Finish Carpentry TV, NS Builders. I've since dived deep into listening to podcasts (like, thousands of hours of content deep), which has had a major impact on my approach to business and the quality of the work we put out.
